PhD candidate Patrick Murphy named national representative for APA’s Section on Positive Psychology

Purdue University College of Education PhD candidate Patrick Murphy was recently named as the national student representative in Division 17 (Society of Counseling Psychology) of the American Psychological Association Section on Positive Psychology.

In this two-year role, Patrick manages the Featured Member Spotlight and Student Campus Representative Program as well as serves on the Executive Board.

Murphy has set three goals to complete as a national student representative. “Attracting new student campus representatives to the program, facilitating collaborative networking among student representatives through two annual meetings, and providing inspirational strategies for member growth are key initiatives I plan to tackle during my term.”

Murphy, from Rensselaer, IN, is a PhD candidate in Counseling Psychology in the Department of Educational Studies and a graduate research assistant in the College of Education. His research, conducted under Dr. Eric Deemer, focuses on psychological study of social class and social mobility. Murphy plans to pursue a career as a tenure-track faculty member after earning his degree at Purdue.
