Special Education: Mild Intervention P-12, BA – 3 year Fast Track

A degree in special education enables you to meet the unique needs of individuals with disabilities and this special three-year, fast-track option is perfect for driven students who want to get to their careers one year early. The fast-track experience includes all of the same coursework and classroom experiences as the traditional, four-year program—just at an accelerated pace. If you’re an accomplished, highly organized student interested in saving one year of tuition and getting a special education classroom of your own or to graduate school in just three years, this is the program for you.

About the Program

Special Education Degree in 3 Flyer

Two key themes (social justice and diversity, and K-12 STEM education) and four key strands (innovation, collaboration, advancement, and leadership) run through and guide the program. Students who successfully complete all requirements of a teacher preparation program that is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) are eligible for licensure in the state of Indiana.

Special education majors are eligible for licensure in the area of special education: mild intervention. This enables them to serve children who experience mild emotional, learning, or intellectual disabilities at the preschool through grade 12 levels. During this program, you will learn to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), use assistive technology, and develop instructional material and environmental modifications — all essential elements when teaching individuals with diverse needs.

Once licensed, a special education graduate is qualified to teach children who experience mild emotional, learning, or intellectual disabilities in grades P-12, including children with high functioning autism.
