Dr. Duarte, a former 8th and 9th grade humanities teacher, received their PhD in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from The University of Texas at San Antonio. Their research engages critical policy analysis to examine the effects of neoliberal educational policies such as standardized assessment, evaluation, and school choice on leaders, teachers, and students in historically underserved schooling systems. Additionally, their research centers the identities and experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals in educational leadership and policy. They have also published on the utility of Queer theory to blur binary research traditions through critical mixed methods and critical quantitative methodologies.
