Lunch and Learn: Genocide

Two of the three guest speakers will be from our college: Virak Chan, PhD, and Phal Wright. They will be speaking about the genocide in Cambodia along with Kelly Watson, a school teacher in Fishers IN, who has expertise in teaching about genocide.

Kelly Watson graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science in English/Language Arts Education. She also earned a Master of Arts in Rhetoric and Composition/Writing Studies from Ball State. Kelly is now an eighth-grade English teacher at Fishers Jr. High in Fishers, Indiana. She was the recipient of the 2020 Hoosier Upstander Award and has published the book “Indiana Voices of the Holocaust: Teens Talk to Survivors and Liberations” with her students.

She is the International Program Coordinator for the Educators’ Institute of Human Rights International (EIHR). She is also a United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) Regional Educator and Museum Teacher Fellow. Since 2001, she has been a speaker for USHMM, helping other teachers know the best practices for teaching about the Holocaust and other genocides. She is the International Program Coordinator, assistant curriculum developer, and writer for the Educators’ Institute of Human Rights International (EIHR), working in Cambodia with teachers about how to share the history of the Holocaust and make connections with their own genocide.

As always, all COE members – students, staff, and faculty are welcome, please join us for Lunch and Learn!
