Amplify the effectiveness of your teaching with the online Director of Career and Technical Education Licensure Program from Purdue University. It’s a fast-paced way for you to broaden your professional skillset as an educator in the Career and Technical Education field and to give you confidence to meet your students’ needs.
This 30-credit hour program will prepare you to be an administrator in your school as a Director of Career and Technical Education.
This online program has rolling admission. Applications must be fully complete and submitted (including all required materials) and all application fees paid prior to the deadline in order for applications to be considered and reviewed. July 1 is the deadline for Fall applications.
November 15 is the deadline for Spring applications.

Admissions
Out-of-state students wanting to complete the program should contact Purdue’s Office of Teacher Education and Licensure at licensure@purdue.edu or (765) 494-2345 to determine if you are eligible for this program, which is approved for licensure in the state of Indiana.
Additional criteria, beyond taking coursework is required for Indiana licensure. A Transcript Evaluation Credential Review (TECR) by Purdue’s Office of Teacher Education and Licensure is required for admission and outlines the additional requirements.

Transcript Evaluation and Credential Review (TECR) Steps

There is a $35.00 TECR fee for this program, and processing takes about two weeks for your TECR letter to be uploaded with your graduate application and emailed to you.
If you do not have a license in the state of Indiana, please contact the Office of Teacher Education and Licensure (OTEL) at licensure@purdue.edu before continuing with the TECR and graduate application.
Graduate Application Steps
Create an application account and log in to start your graduate application.
Select the following options for the Career and Technical Education Licensure program:

- In the Additional Information section, faculty selections may be made, but are not required. Faculty advisors are assigned by the program area.
Upload required materials, including:
- Resume
- Personal History Statement
- Academic Statement of Purpose
Follow the instructions in the Application Roadmap for submitting your official transcripts.
- Once you are ready to submit your graduate application, please complete all sections and submit the application.
- You should not be asked to enter payment information for the application fee if you have selected Teacher License as your degree objective (for those who already possess a completed master’s degree).
- The application must be fully submitted in order for your application to be reviewed and considered for admission.
Check the status of your submitted application by logging into the application portal.
Once your application is complete, you will receive an email from edgrad@purdue.edu indicating that your application is complete and will be submitted for review.

*Tuition and fees are charged on a per credit hour basis and are subject to annual increases. Annual increases may change the total program cost. Purdue faculty and staff fee remissions are not eligible for this program.

The U.S. Department of Education requires institutions to publicly disclose to prospective and currently enrolled students whether certain programs meet the education requirements for licensure or certification in the state or territory in which they reside. “Programs Leading to Professional Licensure” is defined as programs represented to prepare students for an occupation for which, at completion of the program, a local, state or federal license, or nongovernmental certification is required (i) as a precondition for employment, (ii) to perform certain functions, or (iii) to meet additional conditions that are generally needed to secure employment.
The Purdue University Teacher Education Program is nationally accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the State of Indiana. However, not all undergraduate and graduate programs lead to an educator licensure in the State of Indiana. If your Teacher Education program includes field experience(s) and a student teaching or internship component, it may lead to an educator license in the State of Indiana, if you meet the licensure requirements. Contact your academic/faculty advisor and/or the Office of Teacher and Licensure at licensure@purdue.edu to verify your program enrollment and whether or not it leads to a license in the State of Indiana.

Licensure Requirements
(1) Holds one (1) of the following licenses:
- District level administrator
- Director of Career and Technical Education
(2) *Has two (2) years of teaching experience.
STATE OF INDIANA
DISTRICT ADMINISTRATOR: DIRECTOR OF CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION
REPA 3 Standards
- The content area “district level administrator: director of career and technical education” shall appear on the license if the department determines the applicant meets the following requirements: Successfully completes the district level administrator’s licensure assessment.
- An initial, standard, provisional, proficient, or accomplished practitioner license with at least one (1) of the content areas in career and technical education.
- A workplace specialist II license with two (2) years of full-time teaching experience in an accredited vocational school in the grade level and vocational content area listed on the license.
- An administrator’s license [Building Level Administrator, Superintendent, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, or Director of Exceptional Needs].
- Successfully completes an approved district administrator: director of career and technical education program.
- Obtain a master’s degree or, if already degreed, completed additional course work in a district administrator: director of career and technical education program that is approved by the board to offer such a degree.
- The holder of a license with the content area district level administrator: director of career and technical education is eligible to serve as an administrator in a career and technical education school in the school setting listed on the license. (Indiana State Board of Education)

Scholarships
Each year the program has a limited amount of scholarships available for teachers. If you are interested in a scholarship, please apply for the scholarship before completing the application. For scholarship consideration:
Applicants for the LDP program must hold a full-time teaching, service, supervisory, or administrative position associated with providing instruction and/or services to youth or adults.

Requirements
- Applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited college or university in the United States.
- Each applicant must submit three letters of recommendation.
