ICLCLE is a multi-, inter-, and trans-disciplinary event that brings together language and literacy focused researchers, educators, scholars, instructors, practitioners, activists, and graduate students from around the world.

Founded at Indiana University in 2018, ICLCLE fosters opportunities for sharing and discussion of research, pedagogy, and practice about diverse issues in language, literacy, and culture in education.

The conference has moved to Purdue for the first time in October 2024, where it will continue to support local and global dialogue by providing space for the exchange of ideas and experiences, research-to-practice connection, and collaboration among practitioners and scholars.

The conference is hosted by the College of Education’s Center for Literacy and Language Education and Research (CL2EAR) and sponsored by Brookes Publishing, INTESOL, and Taylor University.

“Purdue’s CL2EAR is excited to host this conference in October,” said Jennifer Renn, research assistant professor and conference chair. “The 2024 event will focus on fostering innovative instruction through researcher-practitioner collaboration, which aligns perfectly with the Center’s mission to enhance the overall quality of literacy and language instruction for PK-12 students through its research, policy transformation, and high-quality teacher development.”

This year’s theme is “Literacy and Language Without Limits: Innovative Practices for Inclusive Education.”

Keynote speakers will be Kathy M. Escamilla of University of Colorado – Boulder, speaking on “Foundational Skills Plus: Developing Effective (Bi)Literacy Programs for Emergent Bilingual Learners”; and Serafín Coronel-Molina of Indiana University – Bloomington, presenting on “The Sociolinguistics of Andean and Amazonian Languages in South America”.

The event will begin on Friday, Oct. 25, in Stewart Center and will run from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a mixer from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. It will continue on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a social event featuring local band Clave Caribe from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. It will conclude on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

“I was thrilled when IU first reached out to me about Purdue taking over as host of this prestigious international conference,” said Wayne E. Wright, associate dean for research, graduate programs, and faculty development in the College of Education  “The conference aligns well with CL2EAR’s mission to be a leader in the state and around the world in promoting research-based literacy and language policies, equitable educational programs, and effective instructional practices.”
