License Eligibility

All candidates must complete an Ed.S. or Ph.D. degree to qualify for the license.

*Two years of full-time teaching experience is required in an accredited school, while holding an Indiana Instructional license as required under 511 IAC 15-6-29. Experience gained while teaching under an Emergency Permit, Transition to Teaching Permit, Career Specialist Permit, Charter School License, or Workplace Specialist II license will not count. 511 IAC 15-6-29 District level administrator: superintendent

Sec. 29. (a) The content area “district level administrator: superintendent” shall appear on the license if the department determines the applicant meets the following requirements:

  1. Successfully completes the district-level administrator’s licensure assessment under 511 IAC 15-7-2.
  2. Successfully completes the following:
    • An Ed.S. or higher at an institution of higher education.
    • An approved district administrator: superintendent program.
  3. Holds an initial, standard, provisional, proficient, or accomplished practitioner license with at least one (1) content area required under:
    • 511 IAC 15-1-1 [Elementary school setting];
    • 511 IAC 15-2-1 [Secondary school setting];
    • 511 IAC 15-3-1 [Preschool through Grade 12];
    • 511 IAC 15-4-1 [Early Childhood Education school setting]; or
    • 511 IAC 15-5-1 [Middle school setting].
  4. *Has a minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a teacher.

All Purdue University Teacher Education Program, PhD or EdS (if applicable), and Indiana Department of Education requirements must be met for recommendation for Indiana licensure.

After all requirements are met, Purdue Teacher Education Program completers will be considered eligible to apply to the Indiana Department of Education for administrative licensure under REPA 3 in:
