OVERVIEW

Educational systems are evolving across the globe requiring PK-22 educational leaders to engage more than ever in transformational leadership practices. Purdue’s Higher Education Systems, Policy, and Leadership concentration is a non-licensure master’s concentration that focuses on preparing leadership-ready graduates to challenge the status quo of PK-22 education both domestically and internationally. This concentration engages students in critical thinking about PK-22 educational systems, leadership, and governance, as well as current issues and policies impacting the internal and external PK-22 educational environments. The program features the integration of select PK-12 and HE courses that explore the cultural, historical, economic and social factors present in contemporary education systems with course offerings in educational leadership, governance, policy, finance, law, and international education.

Please contact Dr. Lisa Lambert Snodgrass with any questions regarding the program and contact the Office of Graduate Studies with questions about the application process.

This fully online program offers students opportunities to enjoy the same rigorous academic programs and faculty engagement as on-campus students, but with a much more flexible, asynchronous class schedule. Assignments, discussions, and other coursework are posted each week in the virtual classroom.

Yes. All applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Yes. This program was designed with working professionals in mind. Its flexible, asynchronous delivery modality makes it easier for working professionals to complete coursework at a feasible pace.

In-state tuition is $450 per credit hour; out-of-state tuition is $650 per credit hour.

Standard load is two, three-credit courses each semester: fall, spring, and summer.

To meet the 3-credit experiential requirement, students will have the option of either studying abroad with one of our Higher Education doctoral cohorts, completing a semester-long professional internship, or writing a thesis on a topic related to higher education systems, policy, or leadership.

Internships are individualized and are designed to give students experience in areas of a college or university that they are interested in exploring. The internship is not a “job shadowing” experience and students are not required to be physically present in West Lafayette to complete an internship at Purdue. Instead, the internship is project-based, allowing students to gain important experience with “real world” higher education issues and challenges.

The study abroad program is optional for students in the online MSEd program. The study abroad program will take place following the final spring of students’ coursework. We will travel abroad for approximately 10 days and work with professors and administrators at a partnering Higher Education Institution (currently at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland). Please note that study abroad costs are in addition to tuition and will range between $4,000 – $6,000 plus airfare.

June 1 is the application deadline for consideration for a fall semester start, and November 1 is the deadline to apply for a spring semester start. Incomplete applications are not reviewed.
