Exploring Intercultural and International Learning Opportunities: Focus on Virtual Communities of Practice and Study Abroad Experiences
Dr. Jill Newton, Professor of Mathematics Education, College of Education
Jill Newton is Professor of Mathematics Education at Purdue University. She holds a PhD in Curriculum, Teaching, and Educational Policy, an MA in International Education, and a BS in Mathematics. She began her career teaching mathematics as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Papua New Guinea and has taught in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bulgaria, Tanzania, the United States, and Venezuela. She has served on the mathematics education faculty at Purdue University for 16 years, teaching graduate and undergraduate mathematics education courses and courses associated with her Tanzania study-abroad program. Her research focuses on K–12 mathematics curriculum, secondary mathematics teacher education programs, and study-abroad programs. She has been recognized with multiple awards at Purdue University, including the Outstanding Leadership in Globalization Award, Charles B. Murphy Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award, Service-Learning Award, and the Christian J. Foster Award, and has received research grants from the National Science Foundation and Spencer Foundation.

Dr. Aparajita Jaiswal, Intercultural Research Specialist, Center for Interculturual Learning, Mentorship, Assessment and Research (CILMAR), Global Partnerships and Programs
Jaiswal conducts research in the area of STEM education and brings a perspective on integrating intercultural learning into the STEM curriculum. Approaches to Measuring Intercultural Learning
Dr. Daniel Jones, Senior Intercultural Learning Specialist, Center for Interculturual Learning, Mentorship, Assessment and Research (CILMAR), Global Partnerships and Programs
As a professional educator, Jones’ primary research interests are in curriculum and program evaluation focusing on the efficacy of intercultural interventions on intercultural development using the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI). Learn more about Dr. Daniel Jones
