College of Education Engagement Board

In May 2024, the College of Education reorganized the former Dean’s Advisory Council and established the Education Engagement Board as the new advisory group. The board’s purpose is to support Purdue’s College of Education, facilitate communication between the school and its alumni, provide professional growth programs, and strengthen alumni relationships with the University and the Purdue for Life Foundation. Its duties involve engaging alumni, students, and community partners in various activities and opportunities to interact with the College. Board members are Purdue Education alumni and partners dedicated to serving the college, students, faculty, and staff. We extend our gratitude to the new Board for their service!

Lianne Beliveau-Strom

Lianne Beliveau-Strom

E-Learning Developer, Group 1001, Zionsville, IN

BA English Education ’12 and (Purdue Global) Graduate Certificate in Project Management ‘23, Purdue University

Lianne Beliveau-Strom is an e-learning developer with a passion for leveraging technology to enhance learning experiences. After graduating from Purdue, she taught English for eight years, sharing her enthusiasm for reading and writing with students of diverse backgrounds. Driven by a desire to understand the science behind effective learning, she earned a master’s degree in Learning Sciences from the University of Iowa (’21) and a Graduate Certificate in Project Management from Purdue Global. Today, she utilizes her expertise in learning theory and research-based instructional methods to create engaging digital training solutions in corporate settings. Lianne currently lives in West Lafayette with her husband, where in their free time they love attending Purdue sporting events.


Michael Bottorff

Vice President, School of Information Technology, Ivy Tech Community College, Indianapolis, IN

BA English/Language Arts Teacher Education ’01, Purdue University

Bottorff is an expert technology leader and partner with over 15 years of experience in helping enterprises leverage technology to achieve strategic goals. In May 2024 he became Vice President for the School of Information Technology at Ivy Tech Community College, the nation’s largest single accredited community college. Previously, he served in technology and leadership roles at Earlham College, MSD of Lawrence Township, NHJ United School Corporation, and Hamilton Southeastern Schools. Mike’s background includes work at the Indiana Department of Education, as a senior consultant for Pacific Technologies, Inc., and as a classroom teacher. He also has experience in audio/video production, retail sales, market research, and entrepreneurship.

Instructional Coach, Avon Community School Corporation, Avon, IN

BA Elementary Education ’08, Purdue University

Since graduating from Purdue, Coulter has spent her career as an elementary teacher in the Avon Community School Corporation and MSD Wayne Township. While studying at Purdue, Coulter served as an Ambassador for the College of Education and is excited to continue to serve Purdue students and the greater community through her work on the Education Engagement Board. She lives in Avon, IN, with her husband and three children.


Ashley Dawson-Bottorff

BA Special Education ’00, Purdue University

Dawson-Bottorff is an educational consultant serving schools, parents, and any agency that desires to improve how they serve all individuals, specifically those with disabilities. She has served in the school setting for over two decades as a teacher of students with exceptional learning needs, as a coordinator for special programming in a large urban school district, and as an instructional coach. Current projects include providing professional development to school staff regarding best practices for teaching students with disabilities and serving as an advocate in IEP meetings in order to ensure students receive free appropriate public education. She lives in the Indianapolis area with her husband, three children, and three dogs. She enjoys gardening, hiking, working on a variety of craft projects, and cheering on the Purdue Boilermakers.

Eutsler is Principal of The Edge, a firm that provides facilitating, consulting and coaching to organization leaders maximizing their individual capacities and effectiveness. While holding adjunct faculty appointments at several higher education institutions since 1985, he has gained experience teaching traditional students and working adults in traditional and accelerated formats in onsite, online, asynchronous, independent, and hybrid learning environments. During his career he has taught elementary, middle, high school, undergraduate, and graduate level courses in music, humanities, communication, management, and leadership as well as chairing dissertation committees and facilitating professional development courses of study. He is committed to serving the community and has provided leadership to a number of organizations.

MSED Learning Design & Technology ‘14, Purdue University

Daniel F. Guenthner is a distinguished educator with a rich 20-year background in online learning across K-12, higher education, and corporate sectors. With a master’s in Learning Design & Technology from Purdue and a Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Indianapolis, he excels in learning management system administration and creating innovative online courses. His tenure includes impactful roles at Boston Scientific and InterVision Systems, where he spearheaded the development of a branded learning academy and various instructional technologies. His expertise and forward-thinking approach make him a valuable contributor to the evolution of digital learning.


Angie Marks

BA Elementary Education ’97, Purdue University

Angie Marks is a Hoosier born and raised, living all her life just south of Lafayette, and comes from a long line of Boilermaker graduates. She entered Purdue desiring to become a news broadcaster only to graduate as an Elementary Education major. After Purdue, she earned her master’s degree, began her teaching career at Battle Ground Elementary in 4th grade, then transferred to James Cole Elementary where she has taught for 25 years. She is married to Matt Marks and has four boys. Her oldest, Blake, graduated from and is now employed by Purdue. Angie enjoys attending Purdue sporting events, being involved in the children’s ministry at her church, traveling with her husband, giving piano lessons, and laughing with her boys during weekly family dinners.


Jim McDonald

PhD Science Education (Educational Technology) ‘02, Purdue University

Prior to enrolling at Purdue, McDonald was an elementary and middle school teacher in California, teaching grades 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, and 8.  He also serves as the faculty advisor of the National Science Teaching Association student chapter at CMU, is the past Chair of the CMU Academic Senate, and also served as the President of the Council of Elementary Science International, the NSTA elementary affiliate. Along with many other awards, he was named a College of Education Distinguished Alumnus in 2019.

Before founding Bullitt Consulting in 2018, Steven McQueen he held positions in Illinois, California, Indiana, and New York. He has a passion for driving engagement and implementing CRMs to achieve significant growth in pipelines and is a leader who believes in continuous improvement. He has also served on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.


Blake Nemelka

Blake Nemelka

Vice President of Academic Affairs -HCA Healthcare, Salt Lake City, UT; and Lecturer, College of Education, Purdue University

PhD Learning Design & Technology ’18, Purdue University

Nemelka has spent the last decade in higher education administration roles, particularly in the space of strategic enrollment management. His research focuses on higher education administration, learning motivation, and college/career readiness. He published his first book, The Middle School Student’s Guide to Academic Success, with Simon & Schuster and FranklinCovey in 2016. In 2023, Blake joined HCA Healthcare, the nation’s largest healthcare organization, where he is the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Clinical Operations for HCA’s Mountain Division. He has worked in university administration roles at Western Governors University, the University of California Santa Barbara, Purdue University, Utah State University, and Utah Tech University.


Allie Powell

BA Elementary Education ’16, Purdue University

Allie Powell is a proud alumna of Purdue, graduating from the College of Education in 2016. During her time at Purdue, she was involved in College Mentor for Kids, was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, and is still a die-hard Boiler basketball fan! After college, Allie taught for five years in Indianapolis Public Schools at Center for Inquiry 70, where she was recognized as a Top 10 teacher in IPS. She is currently a second grade teacher at Carmel Elementary. In 2020, Allie graduated with her Masters in Educational Psychology from Ball State University, and in May 2023 she completed her Building Level Administrative License from Purdue. Allie married her husband Bryan in 2018 and they currently reside in Westfield, IN, with their two wonderful boys. Allie enjoys playing volleyball, reading books, and spending the summer on Lake Maxinkuckee.


Sarah Powley

Teacher and Instructional Coach (ret.), West Lafayette, IN

MS English Ed ’85 and Gifted/Talented Endorsement ’88, Purdue University

Sarah Powley is a life-long educator. She earned her bachelor’s degree from DePauw University in 1965 and her master’s degree from Purdue in 1985. She taught English in the Tippecanoe School Corporation (TSC) from 1981-2012 and was an instructional coach for secondary teachers in the TSC at the time of her retirement in 2022. She received the Purdue College of Education Distinguished Alumni Award (2018), served on its Dean’s Advocacy Council (2019-2023), and has received numerous other awards. In 2023, she published a book about public education entitled Connections: The Magic in Learning. She is a frequent speaker in teacher education courses at Purdue and at other Indiana education venues, is the chair of the Greater Lafayette Holocaust Remembrance Committee, and volunteers at the Celery Bog Nature Center in West Lafayette, IN.

Tevin Shoultz is thrilled to be involved in the Purdue University College of Education Engagement Board. He is a lifelong resident of North Vernon, IN, where he taught culinary arts at Jennings County High School and has taught at both secondary school levels for the past eight years. He enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling to the beach and Walt Disney World, and experimenting with new recipes. He is ecstatic to join this newly-established board and eagerly anticipates collaborating with fellow members to foster engagement among College of Education alumni.

Throughout her life, helping others has been an integral part of who Dailey Tingley is. She chose a career in financial services because she believes she can make a difference in the lives of families in her community. Tingley graduated from Purdue University through the 21st Century STEM Teachers Scholarship Program, and then had the pleasure to serve as a teacher for four years. She comes from a homeschooling family. As a teacher, she saw a large need for financial education and resources in the community, and is proud to be able to continue to educate by creating a network of financial professionals for her clients to utilize during their financial journeys.

Distinguished Education Alumni Award

The College of Education presents the Distinguished Education Alumni Award (DEAA) in recognition of the notable professional achievements of our alumni. The DEAA is the highest award for alumni and honors their notable career and life achievements that reflect favorably on Purdue University, education, or society in general. The DEAA is presented at the biennial Education Appreciation and Alumni Awards event. The award is not meant to be restrictive in its criteria, but rather inclusive of all of the various life paths our alumni may take.
