Hyeree Cho's research investigates how learners sustain their motivation and engagement in challenging academic contexts, with a primary focus on the developmental experiences of pre-service teachers. Her dissertation, titled "Pre-service Teachers’ Motivational Challenges and Use of Value Regulation Strategies in Authentic Field Experiences," examines how aspiring teachers navigate the complex motivational difficulties that arise during their essential fieldwork. Employing an exploratory sequential mixed-methods design, she investigates the specific strategies, particularly value regulation, that these students use to maintain their commitment and find meaning in their work. A key contribution of this research is the development and validation of a new questionnaire to measure these contextualized value regulation strategies. In addition to her dissertation work, she has also contributed to research on motivation within STEM fields. This includes studies on pathways to STEM majors, mathematics anxiety, and the experiences of Korean women in U.S. engineering and computer science programs.
