IPS Names Finalists for 2026 IPS Teachers of the Year
Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) announced eight finalists (Apr. 24) for the 2026 IPS Teacher of the Year Award – educators who represent the district’s best in effective teaching, excellent instruction, and outstanding accomplishments in the classroom.

One of the finalists was Purdue University College of Education alumna Emily Murseli (BA Elementary Education & Global Studies ‘17).
Murseli is a dedicated educator, creative, coach, and youth advocate with eight years of teaching experience in both Kosovo and Indianapolis. After graduating from Purdue, she served as a Peace Corps volunteer for two years in the Republic of Kosovo as an English Language Resource Teacher; earned a master’s certification in applied educational neuroscience from Butler University (May 2021); and has worked at IPS/Butler University Laboratory School (Eliza A. Blaker School 55) since August 2019 as part of a 4/5 looping team that creates culturally relevant and hands on curriculum.
In her role at IPS, Murseli brings the pillars of the Reggio Emilia philosophy to life, an educational approach to early childhood learning that integrates hands-on, materials-rich experiences to spark curiosity, joy, and creativity in her students. Passionate about extending learning beyond the classroom, she leads community projects that connect students with families, professional artists, and local institutions. She actively seeks opportunities for students to engage with their city and state in new ways, incorporating public transportation, walking tours, and diverse field trip experiences.
A graduate of Purdue University and a Peace Corps Volunteer, Murseli credits her time in Kosovo with shaping her perspective on education, creativity, and global citizenship. Her Peace Corps experience inspired her to embrace multiple perspectives and cultivate a classroom environment that values inquiry, collaboration, and authentic learning experiences.
