About

Dr. Paul A. Asunda is an Associate professor of engineering and technology teacher education in the Department of Technology Leadership and Innovation (TLI) with a joint appointment in College of Education, Department of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I), and an affiliate faculty for the Center for Advancing the Teaching and Learning of STEM (CATALYST).

Dr. Asunda primarily prepares pre-service teachers with best practices around curriculum development, including assessment practices in STEM learning and workforce initiatives. His research and scholarship focus on supporting integration of engineering design and computational thinking practices in integrated Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (i-STEM) disciplines at the P-12 level specifically, STEM learning and engineering design across the professional continuum, computational thinking and engineering design initiatives in career and college success, and assessment and evaluation in engineering design integrated within STEM disciplines. Dr. Asunda has also done, and continues to do international work related to STEM teaching through engineering design practices and teacher preparation in Peru, and Kenya. He has been featured as a research expert on a American Institute of Research (AIR) panel that discussed Career and Technical Education Pathways to STEM Disciplines on Minnesota Public Television Broadcast. He has also participated as a panelist for the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Educational Technology talk on “Innovations in Career Technical Education and Transformative Learning.”

From 2014 to 2017 he served as the Vice President for the engineering and Technology Education division of the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE). In this leadership position, he represented over 1,500 STEM educators and helped to organize the division conferences, and to recognize and honor exemplary STEM educators, students, researchers, and engineering and technology programs nationwide.

Dr. Asunda continues to mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Students interested in integrated STEM initiatives, instructor development, career and college success, workforce education and development, curriculum development, and evaluation and assessment of STEM teaching, should contact Dr. Asunda to discuss possibilities for potential funding for graduate school.
