Educational Measurement and Data Analytics (EMDA)

What if more educational assessments . . . Were designed for personalized learning?  Encouraged students to set their own learning goals, at their own pace?  Presented engaging curriculum-aligned tasks?  Offered ‘just-in-time’ useful feedback?

Our faculty welcome graduate students with interests in adaptive testing, diagnostic modeling of achievement test data, institutional data analytics, latent variable modeling, test content alignment, and other contemporary assessment design and data analytics methods to join our scholarly community.  Building on foundational coursework in educational psychology, our Ph.D. and Master’s students pursue research in Educational Measurement and Data Analytics, supported by individual mentoring, coursetaking that fits your interests, and research assistantship and internship opportunities.  Our recent graduates are employed as university professors, by research organizations, and in the educational testing industry.

The quality courses on psychometrics and other methods, from foundational to advanced, have contributed to developing my research.  Purdue offers excellent flexibility in doctoral training…  I appreciate the support from my advisor and other faculty that I have received as an international student to pursue my degree.  I am proud to be a Boilermaker!

The EMDA program encourages students to apply what they have learned to solve practical problems in the field.  All the professors were very supportive of my applications for summer educational measurement internships.  During my three internships, I managed to solve research challenges with the analytic skills from the program…
